Once while I was having sex, I was suddenly in pain. I had never experienced this feeling, and I couldn't imagine what could have caused it. The following weeks I had a variety of experiences with women's health professionals in order to figure out what had happened and why I was still in pain and bleeding. One doctor told me I likely had an ovarian cyst rupture and that this can be a common experience with people who switch from the birth control pill to an IUD. I had never been told to expect this, or heard of it happening to anyone else so it was really surprising and confusing. I was in pain and had a lot of anxiety over what could be wrong with me.
